We're RISQS Accredited

What is RISQS?

RISQS is an official certification authority for the British Rail Industry, supporting suppliers products and customer experience. Obtaining a RISQS certification means that we, the supplier have provided RISQS with financial information and risk assessment documents ensuring products and values align with RISQS.

Russell Railway Thermometer.

What did we do to achieve this accreditation:

  • Research: Learning the benefits of becoming RISQS accredited kickstarted the journey to our Railway Thermometers accreditation, discovering the various advantages such as time and money saving, customer satisfaction, and efficient supplier processes, whilst also learning the requirements needed to become RISQS accredited allowed us to understand how best to meet these requirements.
  • Registration: Providing company details and taking part in an online questionnaire as well as selecting the product to put forward for RISQS accreditation.
  • Company / Product Audit: Russell underwent a verification process conducted by RISQS to ensure the documents we sent over were acceptable and our product is of RISQS standard.
  • Accreditation: After completing all RISQS accreditation processes, our Railway Thermometer received the RISQS approval certification and Russell has become a supplier of RISQS accredited products.

Why is it important?

Being RISQS accredited is extremely important because;

  • Customers can confidently buy, knowing railway experts have audited and approved our product.
  • This accreditation verifies that as a supplier, we provide high-quality products and services, to industry standards.
  • Boosts brand visibility within the industry.
  • Calibrated products don’t need to be tried and tested individually as they already withhold industry accreditation, saving the buyer and suppliers time and money.
  • Becoming RISQS accredited means that rail operators can efficiently streamline their search so that they are only choosing products on the RISQS.

Why is it important for our customers?

RISQS isn’t just beneficial to industry suppliers, customers also benefit from their suppliers becoming RISQS accredited:

  • Quality Reassurance: RISQS accreditation ensures that customers only receive the highest quality products, sold by companies that have been audited and included in the RISQS accredited database.
  • Customers can rely on consistently good service and high product quality, as Network Rail will not have to recalibrate and audit accredited products, ensuring that they meet these same quality standards and provide their customers with reassurance in their services.
  • No supply chain risk: Customers receive supply chain security by dealing with RISQS accredited suppliers ensuring they comply with necessary RISQS regulations and standards.
  • Time-Saving: Customers can save time and money on due diligence processes. RISQS accreditation means suppliers don't have to go through continuous auditing processes for separate customers. Not having to go through due diligence processes ensures the likelihood of any potential disruption is reduced significantly.

    FAQs

Q: How do you monitor and predict winter weather impacts?

A: We use a sophisticated weather forecasting system to track adverse conditions. This enables us to allocate resources such as snow ploughs and antifreeze effectively.

Q: How does the magnetic track thermometer help?

A: The thermometer provides temperature readings of railway tracks, allowing operators to anticipate and address issues such as frozen rails or stress-induced rail deformation.

Q: Why not deploy snowploughs across the entire network?

A: The unpredictable and often mild nature of Britain’s winters makes it impractical to maintain a large fleet nationwide. Instead, we position snowploughs strategically in regions most likely to experience heavy snowfall.

Q: What safety measures are in place for passengers duringsevere weather?

A: Rail operators implement speed restrictions during icy conditions to reduce risks such as overshooting signals. Network Rail also coordinates closely with train operators to adapt schedules and provide clear communication to passengers.

Q: Are trains in Britain equipped to handle snow and ice?

A: Many modern trains are fitted with features such as anti-ice systems and wheel-slip protection, ensuring better performance during adverse weather.
